Strategic Planning
It is a simple truism that most of us have taken our piping infrastructure for granted. We turn on a tap, and the water streams out, on demand, with sufficient quality and in sufficient quantity to meet our needs. Similarly, draining our liquid waste away is as easy as “pulling the plug”. Consumers and business professionals simply cannot begin to comprehend or contemplate an interruption or loss of service…until it happens.
Sadly, the strategic approach toward infrastructure is increasingly becoming one of “run-to-failure”, or, “the plan is to have no plan”. This is often driven by the financial imperative of markets. The nice thing about NOT planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise and is not preceded by periods of stress and panic. The downside of this strategy is inevitable: operational crises and staggering costs. The reality of deteriorating piping systems in America is sobering, and even overwhelming. Evanco believes in a rational, risk-based strategic approach that starts before the first crisis appears. A multi-point system overview and review provides a snapshot to which various strategic planning tools can be applied. Piping networks, small or large, are often complex in operation. Priorities need to be assessed using an engineering approach so that firestorms of failure are averted. |
